Ingredients:
4 cupWhite nothern beans
1 medOnion, whole
1/3 cupMolasses
3 tspSalt
Hot water
1 Ham bone from honeybaked ham
1/2 cupBrown sugar, (plus 3 tb)
2 tspDry mustard
1/2 tspPepper
Procedures:
1In the morning, parboil them for 10 minutes with a teaspoon of baking soda added to the water.
2Oil sides of crockpot.
3Rinse beans with cold water and drain.
4Place onion in the bottom of the crockpot.
5Add beans and ham bone.
6Mix remaining ingredients with hot water in an amount to sit 1" below the beans.
7Pour over the beans, and cover.
8Cook on high for 4 hours and remove ham bone.
9Remove ham pieces and dice, return to pot.
10(ham will measure about 1-1.5 cups of meat).
11Cook for 3-4 more hours on low.
12Avoid excessive stirring during cooking, or the beans will get very sticky
