New hampshire maple syrup pie

Ingredients:
1 cupMaple Syrup ( N.H. prefered)
1 tbspButter
2 eachEgg whites
1 xPinch salt
1 xChopped Nuts
1 cupHot water
3 tbspCornstarch
2 eachEgg yolks
1 tbspMaple syrup
Procedures:
1Combine syrup, hot water and butter and bring to a boil.
2Mix cornstarch, salt and enough cold water to make a thin paste, add egg yolks and beat well.
3Add hot syrup mixture gradually, return to heat and cook untill thickened, stirring constantly.
4Cool slightly.
5Pour into cooked pie shell.
6Beat egg whites stiff, adding slowly the tablespoon of syrup.
7Pile on pie and brown in hot oven.
8Add chopped nut meats if desired to top
