Ingredients:

| cup | Butter or margerine | | 2
| cup | Granulated sugar | | 3 1/2
| cup | Cake flour | | 1/2
| tsp | Salt | | 3
| tsp | Baking powder | | 1 1/2
| cup | Ice water | | 1/4
| tsp | Almond flavoring, (optional) | | 4
| | Egg whites, stiffly beaten |

Procedures:
| 1 | Cream shortening. | | 2 | Gradually add sugar, beating until fuffy. | | 3 | Sift dry ingredients together. | | 4 | Add alternately with ice water and flavoring, if desired, to creamed shortening. | | 5 | Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. | | 6 | Bake in 2 greased cake layer pans at 350 °F. | | 7 | For 30 minutes. | | 8 | Makes 1 layer cake. |
