Floating island pudding

Ingredients:
5 Eggs
1/2 cupSugar
1/4 tspSalt
1 quartMilk, scalded
1 tspVanilla
Procedures:
1Beat 3 egg yolks and 2 whole eggs slightly.
2Add sugar and salt, mix well and add hot milk gradually, stirring constantly.
3Cook in top of double boiler until it coats the spoon, stirring constantly.
4Add vanilla.
5Pour into large pan.
6Beat remaining egg whites until foamy; beat in additional 6 tablespoons sugar gradually.
7Add ?teaspoon of vanilla.
8Drop meringue, using large spoon onto hot custard, cover pan closely until mixture is cool; then chill.
