Ingredients:
CRUMB MIXTURE
1 1/3 cupFRESH BREAD CRUMBS
3/4 cupPACKED BROWN SUGAR
1 tspGRATED ORANGE PEEL (FRESH)
1/2 tspGROUND CINNAMON
BROWN BETTY
6 eachGRANNY SMITH APPLES (8 CUPS)
4 tbspBUTTER (CUT IN SMALL PIECES)
1/4 cupWATER
Procedures:
1Peel, core and quarter the apples.
2Heat oven to 375 deg f.
3Have a 1 ?quart baking dish ready.
4Mix all the crumb mixture ingredients together in a bowl until well blended.
5Arrange half the apple pieces over the bottom of the baking dish.
6Sprinkle with half the crumb mixture.
7Dot with half the butter.
8Repeat the layers.
9Drizzle the water over the apples.
10Cover and bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until apples in center are tender.
11Serve warm or at room temperature.
12Makes 6 servings.
