Ingredients:
1/2 cupShortening
1 1/2 cupSugar
1/4 cupRed food coloring
2 tbsp(Heaping) Cocoa
1 cupButtermilk
2 1/4 cupCake flour
1 tspVanilla
1 tspSalt
1 tspBaking soda
1 tspVinegar
2 Eggs
Frosting:
3 tbspFlour
1 cupMilk
1 cupSugar
1 tspVanilla
1 cupButter, Must be Butter
Procedures:
1Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
2Make a paste of food coloring and cocoa.
3Add to creamed mixture.
4Add buttermilk alternating with flour and salt.
5Add vanilla.
6Add soda to vinegar (foams!!!), blend in..
7Pour into 3 or 4 greased and floured 8" cake pans.
8Bake at 350 24-30 minutes.
9Split layers fill and frost with the following frosting.
10Frosting add milk to flour slowly, avoid lumps.
11Cook flour and milk "til very thick, stirring constantly.
12Cool!! cream sugar, butter and vanilla "til fluffy.
13Add to cooked mixture.
14Beat, high speed, "til very fluffy.
15Looks and tastes like whipped cream.
