Ingredients:
2 1/4 cupFlour
1/2 tspSalt
1 1/4 tspGround Ginger
1/2 tspCinnamon
1/2 tspNutmeg
1 tspBaking Soda
1/4 cupButter
1/2 cupBrown Sugar
2 Large Apples
1/2 cupShortening
3 tbspSugar
1 Egg
1 cupMolasses
1 cupBoiling Water
Procedures:
1Preheat oven to 375°F.
2Sift together flour, spices and baking soda.
3In a 10 " cast iron skillet, melt the butter.
4Sprinkle the sugar evenly over it.
5Peel and core apples, slice them.
6Arrange apples, overlapping on top of sugar.
7With electric mixer at medium speed, beat together the shortening, sugar and the egg until very creamy.
8Combine the molasses and the water At low speed add the flour and molasses mix alternating to the to eggmix.
9Beat well after each addition.
1010.spoon batter over apples and bake 45 minutes or until done.
1111.loosen around the edges with spatula; invert onto plate; let stand 3-4 minutes, then remove from skillet.
