Ingredients:
1/2 cupMilk
1/3 cupVegetable shortening
1 tspSalt
1/4 cupSugar
1 packActive dry yeast
1/4 cupWarm water
2 Eggs, beaten
1/2 tspDried lemon peel
2 1/4 cupFlour
1 cupRaisins
1/4 cupChopped almonds
Procedures:
1Scald milk in saucepan.
2Add shortening, salt, and sugar; stir until shortening is melted and sugar dissolved.
3Cool to lukewarm.
4Dissolve yeast in warm water; add to lukewarm milk mixture and mix well.
5Add eggs and lemon peel to milk mixture.
6Add flour; beat until smooth.
7Cover and let rise for 6 hours.
8Punch down dough.
9Add raisins; knead until smooth and elastic.
10Generously grease brioche pan; sprinkle bottom with almonds.
11Pour dough into pan.
12Let rise, uncovered, for 20 minutes.
13Preheat oven to 425°F.
14Bake babka for 20 minutes.
15Remove from pan immediately.
