Ingredients:

| cup | Dates, chopped | | 1
| tbsp | Orange juice | | 1
| tsp | Orange rind, grated | | 1/2
| tsp | Orange extract | | 1
| tsp | Baking powder | | 1
| tsp | Baking soda | | 1
| tsp | Salt | | 1/4
| tsp | Ground nutmeg | | 1/4
| tsp | Ground cloves | | 1
| tsp | Ground cinnamon | | 1 1/2
| cup | Mashed bananas |

Procedures:
| 1 | Recipe by: rose murray, the christmas cookbook great canadian prepare two 2 litre (9" x 5") loaf pans. | | 2 | Preheat oven to 300°F. | | 3 | In a large bowl combine the fruit, dates, pineapple and walnuts. | | 4 | Dredge them with ?cup of the flour. | | 5 | Sift the remaining flour together with the baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. | | 6 | Set aside. | | 7 | Cream the butter, add the sugar and beat until the mixture is light and fluffy. | | 8 | Beat in the eggs, one at a time. | | 9 | Beat in the orange rind, orange juice and orange extract. | | 10 | Mash the bananas with a fork. | | 11 | (a food processor will tend to liquefy the bananas and this will change the texture of the cake). | | 12 | Alternately stir the bananas and the flour mixture into the creamed mixture. | | 13 | Stir in the floured fruit and nuts. | | 14 | Turn into the prepared pans and bake for 2 hours and 15 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the middle of each cake comes out clean. | | 15 | Cool in the pans for 20 minutes, then turn out onto racks. | | 16 | Yields about 5 pounds of cake. |
