Hot buttered cider

Ingredients:
7 cupApple cider OR apple juice
1/3 cupBrown sugar, packed
4" stick cinnamon
1 tspWhole allspice
1 tspWhole cloves
1 Lemon peel, cut into strips
1 1/2 cupRum
Butter or margarine
Thin apple slices
Procedures:
1Combine apple cider or apple juice and brown sugar in a large saucepan.
2For spice bag, tie cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and lemon peel in a 7 inch square of 100 percent cotton cheesecloth.
3Add spice bag to cider mixture.
4Bring cider mixture to boiling.
5Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.
6Remove and discard spice bag.
7Stir in rum.
8Pour cider mixture into mugs.
9Float about ?tsp butter or margarine on each.
10Top each serving with one or two thin apple slices.
11Makes about 10 (6-oz) servings
