Jamaican meat patties

Ingredients:
2 tbspOilve oil
1 Onion, finely chopped
3 Garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 lbsGround beef, lean
1 tbspCurry powder
1 tsp-salt
1/2 tsp-freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cupBread crumbs, dry
1/2 cupChicken stock , or water
2 Green onions, finely chopped
PASTRY
2 cupFlour, all purpose
1/2 tspTumeric
1/4 tsp-salt
2/3 cupShortening or Butter, cold
-diced
1/4 cup-ice water or more if
-necessary
1 Egg, lightly beaten
Procedures:
1Heat oil in large heavy skillet.
2Add onions and garlic.
3Cook, stirring till onion wilts.
4Add ground meat.
5Cook, stirring until meat is browned and combined with onions.
6Sprinkle with curry, salt and pepper.
7Cook about 5 minutes.
8Stir in breadcrumbs and stock or water.
9Cook, stirring often, about 20 minutes.
10Mixture should be thick but not dry.
11Stirin green onions.
12Make pastry by combining flour with tumeric and salt.
13Cut in butter or shortening until in tiny bites.
14Add water; gather into a ball.
15Roll out to about ? thivkness and cut into 4" circles.
16Gather remaining dough together and lightly cut out again.
17Place about 1 tbsp filling on each circle.
18Brush edges with lightly beaten egg, fold over and seal.
19Preheat oven to 400°F.
20Place patties on cookie sheets lined with aluminium foil.
21Brush lightly with remaining lightly beaten egg.
22Bake 25 to 30 till browned.
23Makes: approx 30 patties these can be made ahead and frozen.
