Scalloped tomatoes

Ingredients:
3 Bacon slices
2 cupFrench Bread, cubed
16 Plum Tomatoes, cubed
Or
56 ozWhole canned tomatoes
2 Garlic cloves
2 tbspSugar
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cupFresh basil
1/2 cupParmesan Cheese
Procedures:
1Preheat oven to 350°F.
2Cook chopped bacon until almost done over medium heat.
3Add bread cubes, cut into ? cubes and stir to coat evenly with the fat.
4Saute until lightly browned all over, 5 to 7 minutes.
5Add the tomatoes, garlic and sugar to the pan.
6Cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes.
7Season with salt and pepper.
8Stir in chopped basil and remove from heat.
9Transfer tomato mixture to greased shallow 1 ?quart casserole.
10Sprinkle cheese over top and bake uncovered for about 30 minutes.
