Caramelized sweet onion slices

Ingredients:

3 eachLarge Spanish Sweet Onions
-(about 3 lbs)
1/4 cupButter
3/4 cupGranulated sugar
3 tbspPacked brown sugar
2 tbspDried thyme, crushed
1/2 tspSalt
1/8 tspPepper
Procedures:
1Peel and cut onions into ?to 1" slices.
2Microwave slices at high (100%) 5 minutes.
3Heat butter in large skillet; add onion slices.
4Combine sugars, thyme, salt and pepper.
5Sprinkle 1 tablespoon sugar mixture over each slice; cook over medium-low heat about 10 minutes on first side.
6Turn slices, sprinkle each slice with 1 tablespoon sugar mixture and cook 10 more minutes.
7Turn slices and cook 1 minute to caramelize sugar topping.
8Keep warm and repeat procedure for remaining onion slices
