Ingredients:

| lbs | Onions, chopped | | 3
| cup | Vegetable shortening | | 2
| quart | Water | | 1
| tbsp | Salt | | 1
| tsp | Pepper | | 3
| quart | Beef stock | | | 25 ea Toast slices | | 1 1/2
| cup | Parmesan cheese, grated |

Procedures:
| 1 | Simmer onions in shortening until light brown. | | 2 | Cover with water and cook for 10 minutes in covered pan. | | 3 | Add seasonings and beef stock. | | 4 | Cut slices of toast into fancy shapes and place one in each soup plate. | | 5 | Pour the hot soup over, sprinkle with cheese and serve. |
