Basque style steamed clams (almejas guisadas)

Ingredients:
4 quartCherrystone clams
4 Cloves garlic, minced
1 Onion, about 1" in diameter
-minced
1 tbspParsley, minced
1 tbspOlive oil
1/2 cupDry white wine
1/2 cupWater (or additional clam
-liquid)
1/4 tspBlack pepper, freshly ground
Procedures:
1Wash clams thoroughly and place in a large kettle.
2Add remaining ingredients.
3Cover and cook over medium heat for 20 minute.
4Serve hot in individual bowls, accomapanied by thick slices of french bread and a green salad.
