New york clam chowder

Ingredients:
1 Dozen large hard clams
-chopped, and juice
1/4 lbsSalt pork, chopped (**or
-bacon)
1 Onion, chopped
1 cupCubed potatoes
1 Carrot, sliced
16 ozCan tomatoes
1/2 tspSalt (optional)
1/4 tspPepper
2 cupHot water (**clam juice
-makes it better)
1 tspThyme
Procedures:
1Brown pork: add onion and, when yellow, add potatoes, carrots, canned whole tomatoes and salt, pepper and water.
2Boil until potatoes and carrots are done.
3Add clams, thyme, and juice.
4Serves **my notes: i use celery too sometimes.
5The amounts don"t really matter.
6I use lots of my home canned tomatoes, sometimes even fresh.
7The tomatoes and thyme along with lots of clams are what makes it taste right
