Ingredients:
2 cupOnions, sliced
1/2 cupButter
1 1/2 quartBeef stock
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
4 sliceFrench bread, toasted
1/2 cupGrated parmesan cheese
Procedures:
1Recipe by: the new york times cookbook Preheat oven to hot (400°F) Saute the onions in four tablespoons of the butter until golden, stirring often.
2Add the stock and boil 10 minutes.
3Season to taste with salt and pepper.
4Place the toast in one large or four small casseroles, add the soup and sprinkle with cheese.
5Dot the top with the remaining butter Bake until the top is golden brown.
