Hay box short rib vegetable soup

Ingredients:
1/2 cupDiced onion
1 tbspMinced fresh celery leaves
3/4 cupDiced potato
3/4 cupDiced carrot
3/4 cupDiced celery
1 cupChopped cabbage
1 cupFresh, whole, peeled
-tomatoes
2 lbsShort ribs, cut into 3 inch
-pieces
5 cupWater
1 Bay leaf
Salt and freshly ground
-black pepper to taste
1/4 cupBarley
Procedures:
1Assemble and prepare all vegetables.
2Place short ribs and water in a heavy soup pot.
3Turn burner to high and boil.
4Add all the vegetables and bring to a rolling boil.
5Add bay leaf, salt and pepper, and barley.
6Stir well.
7Cover immediately with a tight fitting lid.
8Cook in a hay box 8 hours.
9Reheat on top of stove a few minutes.
10Serves 6-8.
