Maple tourlouche (upside down cake)

Ingredients:
1 cupMaple syrup
1 tbspButter, softened
3 tbspSugar
1 Egg
1 cupFlour, all purpose
2 tspBaking powder
1/8 tspSalt
1/4 tspNutmeg, or cinnamon
1/2 cupMilk
1/4 cupNutmeats, finely chopped
-optional
Procedures:
1Bring syrup to a boil and pour into a generously buttered 8 by 8 by2 baking dish.
2Let stand in a warm place, with a large spoon beat butter, sugar and egg together until creamy.
3Mix remaining dry ingredients and add with the milk to the creamed mixture, stirring until well blended.
4Place as four large balls into hot syrup, then stretch dough with two forks until all are joined together.
5This is easy because the dough gets soft when it comes in contact with the hot syrup.
6If using nut meats, add them to the hot syrup.
7Bake at 350 °F for 30 minutes.
8Tastes great with ice cream or whipping cream, served warm
