Ingredients:

2 cupFlour
1 1/2 tspBaking Powder
3/4 tspBaking Soda
1 tspSalt
3 tbspSugar
1 1/2 tspCaraway Seed
3 tbspShortening
2/3 cupGolden Raisins - Plumped
1 cupButtermilk
2 tbspMelted Butter
Procedures:
1* to plump raisins: place raisins in a small saucepan and just cover with hot water.
2Simmer until raisins have absorbed the water.
3Set aside.
4Preheat oven to 350°F.
5Blend the flour and the next five ingredients.
6Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender until well blended.
7Mix in raisins.
8Add buttermilk all at one time, mix lightly to a soft dough.
9Turn the dough into a greased 9-inch round layer cake pan.
10Cut a cross into the top about 2/3 into the loaf.
11Brush top with melted butter and sprinkle with 4 teaspoons additional sugar.
12Bake 40 minutes or until brown.
13Makes 1 loaf.
