Fresh tomato soup with shrimp dumplings - bon appetit

Ingredients:
SOUP
1/2 cupOlive oil
1 cupSliced shallots
2 Garlic cloves, crushed
8 Black peppercorns
Crushed
3 tbspTomato paste
1/8 tbspSaffron threads
1 tbspChopped fresh cilantro
1 tbspChopped fresh tarragon
1 tbspChopped fresh basil
1 1/2 tbspChopped fresh thyme
1 cupCanned low-salt chicken
Broth
DUMPLINGS
Deveined
6 tbspFresh corn kernels or
Frozen, thawed
2 tbspAll purpose flour
2 largeEgg yolks
2 tbspChopped fresh cilantro
1 tbspTomato paste
1 tbspChopped fresh oregano
1 Garlic clove, crushed
2 tbsp(or more) olive oil
Procedures:
1For soup: chop tomatoes in processor in batches.
2Heat ?c oil in heavy large dutch oven over medium-low heat.
3Add shallots, garlic and peppercorns; saute until shallots are tender, about 5 minutes.
4Add tomato paste; stir 1 minute.
5Add tomatoes, ?c oil and saffron.
6Bring to boil.
7Reduce heat; simmer 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
8Add herbs.
9Simmer 5 minutes.
10Puree mixture in processor in batches until almost smooth.
11Strain through medium sieve into large saucepan, pressing on solids.
12Stir in broth.
13Season with salt and pepper.
14(can be made 1 day ahead.
15Cover, chill).
16for dumplings: using on/off turns, coarsely chop shrimp in processor.
17Transfer shrimp to large bowl.
18Stir in corn, flour, yolks, cilantro, tomato paste, oregano and garlic; mix thoroughly.
19Season generously with salt and pepper.
20Shape mixture by scant tablespoonfuls into 24 balls.
21Cook dumplings in batches in pot of simmering salted water until cooked through, about 3 minutes.
22Using slotted spoon, transfer to baking sheet.
23(can be made 1 day ahead.
24Cover, chill).
25preheat oven to 450°F.
26Heat 2 tablespoons oil in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat.
27Add half of dumplings; saute until golden, about 5 minutes.
28Drain on paper towels.
29Repeat with remaining dumplings, adding oil if necessary.
30Place dumplings on baking sheet.
31Bake until heated, about 4 minutes.
32bring soup to simmer.
33Ladle into bowls.
34Add 3 dumplings to each bowl.
