Ingredients:
1 1/4 cupAll-Purpose Flour -- sifted
1 tspBaking Soda
6 tbspCocoa Powder
1/2 cupShortening
1 cupSugar -- (plus 1 Tbsp)
2 Eggs
1/2 cupButtermilk
1/2 tspVanilla
1/2 cupBoiling Water
MARSHMALLOW ICING
1 cupSugar
1/4 tspSalt
1/2 tspCream Of Tartar
2 Egg Whites
3 tbspWater
1 tspVanilla Extract
Procedures:
1Combine flour, soda, and coca.
2Sift mixture 3 times.
3In a separate bowl cream shortening.
4Add sugar to shortening and cream until light and fluffy.
5Add the eggs, one at a time, and beat for 2 minutes after each addition.
6Add the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk, beating at medium speed after each addition.
7Add the vanilla.
8Add the water 1/3 at a time, beating well after each addition.
9Pour the batter into 2 ungreased 8-inch cake pans.
10Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
11in the top of a double boiler over simmering water, combine the sugar, salt, cream of tartar, egg whites, and water.
12Beat with an electric mixer at top speed for 4 to 5 minutes.
13Remove from heat and the simmering water and beat for 1 minute.
14Add vanilla and blend.
15Frost the chocolate cake.
