Ingredients:

| cup | Shortening or butter | | 1
| cup | Sugar | | 4
| | Egg yolks, beaten well | | 1 1/4
| cup | Flour, sifted | | 1/4
| tsp | Baking soda | | 2
| dash | Salt | | 4
| | Egg whites, beaten stiff | | | CHOCOLATE SAUCE | | 3
| oz | Squares unsweeten chocolate | | 1/2
| cup | Milk | | 1
| tsp | Batter from cupcakes | | 1/2
| cup | Strong coffee | | 2
| cup | Milk | | 2
| cup | Sugar |

Procedures:
| 1 | Cupcakes: cream shortening and sugar. | | 2 | Add yolks. | | 3 | Mix well. | | 4 | Combine flour, baking soda and salt. | | 5 | Add sugar-egg mixture. | | 6 | Mix well. | | 7 | Fold in. mix well. | | 8 | Reserve 1 tsp batter for sauce. | | 9 | Pour 2/3 full into greased or lined muffin tins. | | 10 | Bake at 375°F for 18-20 minutes. | | 11 | chocolate sauce: combine chocolate, milk and batter in top of double boiler. | | 12 | Allow to blend and thicken. | | 13 | Add coffee. | | 14 | Bring to a boil, stirring. | | 15 | Add milk & sugar. | | 16 | Boil 10 minutes, stirring constantly. | | 17 | Serve while hot over cupcakes that have been cut in halves. | | 18 | This is a good way to brighten up old cakes too. |
