Jane wyman's cupcakes with chocolate sauce

Ingredients:
3/4 cupShortening or butter
1 cupSugar
4 Egg yolks, beaten well
1 1/4 cupFlour, sifted
1/4 tspBaking soda
2 dashSalt
4 Egg whites, beaten stiff
CHOCOLATE SAUCE
3 ozSquares unsweeten chocolate
1/2 cupMilk
1 tspBatter from cupcakes
1/2 cupStrong coffee
2 cupMilk
2 cupSugar
Procedures:
1Cupcakes: cream shortening and sugar.
2Add yolks.
3Mix well.
4Combine flour, baking soda and salt.
5Add sugar-egg mixture.
6Mix well.
7Fold in. mix well.
8Reserve 1 tsp batter for sauce.
9Pour 2/3 full into greased or lined muffin tins.
10Bake at 375°F for 18-20 minutes.
11chocolate sauce: combine chocolate, milk and batter in top of double boiler.
12Allow to blend and thicken.
13Add coffee.
14Bring to a boil, stirring.
15Add milk & sugar.
16Boil 10 minutes, stirring constantly.
17Serve while hot over cupcakes that have been cut in halves.
18This is a good way to brighten up old cakes too.
