Ingredients:
| 1
| cup | Whole wheat flour | | 1 1/4
| tsp | Salt (optional) | | 1/2
| tsp | Baking soda | | 3/4
| tsp | Baking powder | | 2
| tsp | Honey | | 1
| | Egg | | 4/5
| cup | Milk, warm | | | Oil for deep frying | | | Honey or maple syrup |
|
Procedures:
| 1 | Servings: 1 sift together all the dry ingredients and then add the honey, egg, and the milk. | | 2 | Beat until smooth. | | 3 | Heat about 2 inches of the oil in a large cast-iron skillet. | | 4 | To test the correct temperature, drop a small piece of dough into the oil. | | 5 | If it floats to the top and bubbles appear around the edges, you are ready to make the funnel cakes. | | 6 | Hold your finger at the bottom of the funnel and pour in some batter. | | 7 | Then, using a spiral motion, let the batter pour into the oil. | | 8 | The cakes should look like free-form spiral sculpture. | | 9 | Fry until golden brown, turning once. | | 10 | Drain on paper towels. | | 11 | Drizzle with honey oar maple syrup and serve hot. | | 12 | The amount you can make will depend upon the amount of batter your use for each cake. | | 13 | Bread winners |
