Pasta with tomato, chard and sunflower seed s

Ingredients:
1/2 cupSunflower seeds
1 tspCanola oil
8 ozOnion -- chopped
2 Cloves garlic -- minced
2 lbsFresh tomatoes -- peeled and
Seeded
1 canTomato paste -- (6 ounce)
1 tspMinced fresh oregano
1 tbspMinced fresh basil
1 tspSalt -- optional
Freshly ground pepper
8 ozFresh chard
1 lbsLinguine
Procedures:
1Substitutions: 1 can (28 ounce) crushed or whole, peeled tomatoes with juice.
2Use any long, thin pasta.
3prepare the chard: wash, remove ribs, and cut crosswise into 1-inch ribbons.
4in a large saucepan or sautepan, toast seeds until very lightly browned.
5In food processor or nut grinder, grind half of the seeds until very fine.
6Reserve remaining half for garnish.
7Heat oil in the pan.
8Add onion and cook, stirring, until softened.
9Add garlic and cook briefly.
10Add tomatoes, tomato paste, ground sunflower seeds, herbs, salt and pepper.
11Simmer about 15 minutes until somewhat thickened.
12Steam chard until tender, about 5 minutes.
13In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook pasta until al dente.
14Drain; remove to serving platter.
15Toss with sauce.
16Top with remaining sunflower seeds.
