Ingredients:
2 cupCake flour
2 tspBaking powder
1/4 tspSalt
2 tbspPowdered sugar
2 tbspButter or butter substitute
2/3 cupSweet milk
1 Egg white, slightly beaten
Filling:
1/4 cupChopped raisins
1/4 cupChopped nuts
2 tbspOrange juice
1/4 tspCinnamon
1 tbspLemon juice
1/4 cupChopped citron
1/4 cupCurrants
1/4 tspAllspice
1/4 tspCloves
2 tbspSugar
Procedures:
1Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking powder and salt.
2Cut in butter with 2 spatulas.
3Add milk.
4Mix lightly until well blended.
5Turn onto lightly floured board.
6Roll in sheet 1/3 inch thick.
7Cut in ovals 4 inches long.
8Combine raisins, nuts, orange juice, lemon juice, spices, currants, citron, and sugar.
9Mix thoroughly.
10Place 1 tablespoon on half of each oval.
11Brush edges of dough with egg white.
12Fold over.
13Press firmly together.
14Press lightly to flatten.
15Make 3 short cuts across the top of each oval with the scissors.
16Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
17Place 2 inches apart on well-oiled baking sheet.
18Bake in hot oven (450°F) until evenly browned.
