Ingredients:
| | SHORTBREAD | | 1/2
| cup | Unsalted butter | | 1/4
| cup | Sugar | | 1
| cup | All-purpose flour | | | MAPLE TOPPING | | 3/4
| cup | Packed brown sugar | | 1/3
| cup | Pure maple syrup | | 1
| tbsp | Unsalted butter, room temp. | | 1
| tsp | Vanilla | | 1/2
| cup | Chopped toasted walnuts |

Procedures:
| 1 | For shortbread: preheat oven to 350 degrees. | | 2 | Generously butter 9-inch square baking dish. | | 3 | Cream butter and sugar in processor unitl light and fluffy. | | 4 | Add flour and process just until blended; do not form ball. | | 5 | Pat into bottom of prepared dish. | | 6 | Bake until shortbread is light brown, about 25 minutes. | | 7 | For topping: beat sugar, maple syrup and butter to blend. | | 8 | Beat in egg and vanilla. | | 9 | Pour over shortbread. | | 10 | Sprinkle evenly with walnuts. | | 11 | Bake until topping is set, about 25 minutes. | | 12 | Cool on rack. | | 13 | Cut into 1-? squares. | | 14 | Store in airtight container. |
