Maple syrup shortbreads

Ingredients:
SHORTBREAD
1/2 cupUnsalted butter
1/4 cupSugar
1 cupAll-purpose flour
MAPLE TOPPING
3/4 cupPacked brown sugar
1/3 cupPure maple syrup
1 tbspUnsalted butter, room temp.
1 tspVanilla
1/2 cupChopped toasted walnuts
Procedures:
1For shortbread: preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2Generously butter 9-inch square baking dish.
3Cream butter and sugar in processor unitl light and fluffy.
4Add flour and process just until blended; do not form ball.
5Pat into bottom of prepared dish.
6Bake until shortbread is light brown, about 25 minutes.
7For topping: beat sugar, maple syrup and butter to blend.
8Beat in egg and vanilla.
9Pour over shortbread.
10Sprinkle evenly with walnuts.
11Bake until topping is set, about 25 minutes.
12Cool on rack.
13Cut into 1-? squares.
14Store in airtight container.
