Nutty chocolate stars

Ingredients:
3/4 cupMargarine or butter
-softened
3/4 cupFirmly packed brown sugar
1 Egg
1 tbspVanilla
3 cupQUAKER Oats (quick or old
-fashioned, uncooked)
1 cupAll-purpose flour
1/2 tbspBaking soda
2/3 cupFinely chopped nuts
1 packMilk chocolate candy stars
-or kisses (6-7 oz)
Procedures:
1Heat oven to 350°F.
2Lightly grease cookie sheet.
3Beat margarine and sugar until fluffy.
4Blend in egg and vanilla.
5Add combined oats, flour and baking soda; mix well.
6Share into 1" balls; roll in nuts.
7Place on prepared cookie sheet.
8Bake 10-12 minutes or until light golden brown.
9Remove from oven; gently press chocolate candy into center of each cookie.
10Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet; remove to wire rack.
11Cool completely.
12Store tightly covered.
13makes 3 ?dozen cookies.
14notes: dough may be covered and stored in the refrigerator for up to two days.
15candied cherries may be substituted for chocolate candy, if desired.
