| cup | SHORTENING | | 1 1/2
| cup | SUGAR | | 2
| each | EGGS | | 1
| tsp | VANILLA | | 2 1/2
| cup | FLOUR | | 1/2
| tsp | BAKING POWDER | | 1
| tsp | BAKING SODA | | 1
| tsp | SALT | | 1
| tsp | CINNAMON | | 1/2
| tsp | CLOVES | | 2
| cup | ROLLED OATS | | 1/2
| cup | CHOPPED NUTS (OPTIONAL) |

Procedures:
| 1 | Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. | | 2 | Measure flour by dipping method. | | 3 | Add salt, soda, spices and baking powder to flour, stirring to mix. | | 4 | Blend flour mix to shortening mixture. | | 5 | Add rolled oats. | | 6 | Mixture may need about ?cup water added. | | 7 | Heat oven to 4000°F. | | 8 | Drop dough by spoonfuls onto cookie sheets. |
