Apricot squares

Ingredients:
2/3 cupDried apricots
1/2 cupButter, softened
1/4 cupSugar
1 1/3 cupFlour, divided
1 cupLight brown sugar, packed
2 Eggs
1/2 cupChopped almonds or walnuts
1/2 tspDouble-acting baking powder
1/2 tspVanilla
1/4 tspSalt
Confectioners sugar
Procedures:
1You can use either almonds or walnuts in this recipe-each gives a very different flavor.
2In a small saucepan, place apricots and cover with water.
3Cook, covered, over low heat for 15 minutes.
4Drain, and when apricots are cool enough to handle, chop finely.
5Set aside.
6Preheat oven to 350?
7Grease 8 x 8-inch baking pan.
8In a large bowl, beat butter, sugar and 1 cup flour until well mixed and crumbly; pat into bottom of pan.
9Bake 20 minutes at 350?or just until golden.
10While batter is in oven, use the same bowl to mix all remaining ingredients (including apricots) except confectioners sugar.
11Pour over baked layer and return to oven for 25 minutes.
12Remove from oven; cool in pan before cutting in squares or oblongs with a sharp knife.
13Dust with confectioners sugar.
14Yield: 16-20 squares or oblongs.
