Cherry-chocolate cookies

Ingredients:
1 cupMargarine or butter
3/4 cupPacked brown sugar
2 Egg yolks
2 ozSemiswet chocolate
-melted and cooled
1 1/2 tspFinely shredded orange peel
1 tspGround cinnamon
1 tspVanilla
1/4 tspSalt
2 1/4 cupAll-purpose flour
1 1/2 cupFinely chopped pecans (to 2)
2 Egg whites
3/4 cupCherry jelly or preserves
Procedures:
1In large mixing bowl beat margarine or butter and brown sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds.
2Add egg yolks, beating well.
3Blend in melted chocolate, orange peel, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt.
4Stir in flour.
5Place pecans and egg white in two separate small, shallow bowls.
6Slightly beat egg whites with a fork.
7Shape dough into 1-inch balls.
8Dip eah ball into egg white; roll in pecans to coat.
9Place balls, 2 inches apart, on lightly greased baking sheets.
10Using your thumb, make slight indentation in top of each cookie.
11Bake in 350 degree oven about 12 minutes or till edges are firm.
12Cool cookies on a wire rack.
13Fill centers of cooled cookies with a small spoonful of jelly or preserves.
14Makes about 60 cookies.
