| 1 | Heat oven to 375°F. |
| 2 | Place length of foil on flat surface. |
| 3 | In large bowl, beat shortening, brown sugar, water and vanilla on medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. |
| 4 | Add eggs; beat well. |
| 5 | Stir together flour, cocoa, salt, and baking soda. |
| 6 | Gradually add to sugar mixture, beating on low speed just until blended. |
| 7 | Stir in chocolate chips. |
| 8 | Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2" apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. |
| 9 | Bake 7-9 minutes, or until cookies are set. |
| 10 | Cookies will appear soft and moist. |
| 11 | Do not overbake. |
| 12 | Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to foil. |
| 13 | Cool completely. |
| 14 | Makes about 3 dozen cookies. |
