Ingredients:

| cup | Shortening | | 1
| cup | Sugar | | 1/2
| cup | Brown sugar | | 1
| | Egg, beaten | | 1 1/2
| cup | Flour | | 1
| tsp | Baking soda | | 1
| tsp | Cinnamon | | 1 1/2
| cup | Quick rolled oats | | 3/4
| cup | Finely crushed walnuts or | | | -pecans | | 1
| tsp | Vanilla |

Procedures:
| 1 | Cream shortening, sugar and brown sugar together. | | 2 | Add the egg. | | 3 | In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, soda and cinnamon. | | 4 | Add it to the shortening mixture. | | 5 | Then, add the oats, nuts and vanilla. | | 6 | Mix well. | | 7 | Chill for an hour. | | 8 | Shape enough dough to make about the size of a walnut and place on a greased cookie sheet. | | 9 | Butter the bottom of a small glass, dip it in sugar and flatten out each dough ball. | | 10 | You don"t need to rebutter the glass bottom, just resugar it each time. | | 11 | Bake at 350 °F for 10 minutes |
