7-minute frosting

Ingredients:
1/4 cupBurnt sugar syrup
2 Egg whites, at room temp
1 1/4 cupSugar
1/4 cupCold water
1/4 tspCream of tarter
1/4 tspSalt
1 tspVanilla extract
Procedures:
1Place all the ingredients except the vanilla extract in the top of a double boiler (but don"t place over boiling water yet).
2Add ?cup of the burnt sugar syrup.
3With a small electric mixer, beat ?minute at low speed.
4Place pot over boiling water, but don"t allow the pan to touch the boiling water.
5Cook, beating constantly, until the frosting forms stiff peaks, about 7 minutes.
6Add vanilla.
7Remove from heat and beat 2 minutes longer
