Caramelized apple & onion tart

Ingredients:
TART SHELL
1 1/2 cupFlour, all-purpose
3/4 tspDried thyme
1/4 tspSalt
1/4 cupButter, chilled & cut into
. small pieces
1/4 cupVegetable shortening
4 -6 Tbsp cold water
FILLING
2 tbspButter
2 Red delicious apples, cored
. and thinly sliced
2 Golden delicious apples
. cored & thinly sliced
1 Onion, thinly sliced
1 clGarlic, minced
3/4 tspSalt
Procedures:
1Preheat the oven to 425°F.
2Combine the flour, thyme and salt.
3Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut the butter and shortening into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal.
4Add water, 1 tbsp at a time, until the dough begins to come together.
5Form into disk; chill for 15 minutes.
6For the filling, in a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
7Add the apples, onion, garlic and salt.
8Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are golden, about 15 minutes.
9On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a 12x16 -inch rectangle.
10Transfer to a baking sheet.
11Spoon the filling onto the shell to within 1 ?inches of the edges.
12Fold the edges over the filling to form a border.
13Bake for 15 to 20 minutes
