Eggnog pie

Ingredients:
1 eachEnvelope unflavored gelatine
1/4 cupCold water
3/4 cupSugar
1 tbspCornstarch
1/4 tspSalt
2 eachEggs, separated
1 1/2 cupMilk
1 tbspVanilla extract plus
1 tspVanilla extract
1 tspGround nutmeg
1/4 cupSugar
1 eachBaked 9-inch pastry shell
1 cupWhipping cream, whipped
Diced candied fruit
Ground nutmeg
Procedures:
1: soften gelatin in cold water; set aside.
2: combine ?cup sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a heavy saucepan.
3Combine egg yolks and milk, beat well, and add to mixture in saucepan.
4Cook milk mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to boil; boil 1 minute.
5Remove from heat, and add gelatin mixture; stir until gelatin granules dissolve.
6Stir in vanilla and 1 teaspoon nutmeg.
7Allow custard mixture to cool until the consistency of unbeaten egg white.
8: beat egg whites (at room temperature) until soft peaks form; gradually add ?cup sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until stiff peaks form and sugar dissolves.
9Fold egg whites into custard.
10Pour filling into pastry shell; chill at least 8 hours.
11: spoon whipped cream in a ring over pie.
12Arrange candied fruit on whipped cream; sprinkle lightly with nutmeg.
13Yield: 1 x 9" pie.
