Ingredients:

| cup | ALL PURPOSE FLOUR | | 4
| tsp | BAKING POWDER | | 2
| tbsp | SUGAR | | 1/2
| tsp | CREAM OF TARTAR | | 1/2
| tsp | SALT | | 1/2
| cup | SHORTENING | | 2/3
| cup | MILK | | 1
| each | EGG, SLIGHTLY BEATEN |

Procedures:
| 1 | Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt. | | 2 | Cut in shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs. | | 3 | Make well in center of mix; add milk all at once. | | 4 | Stir until dough clings together. | | 5 | Knead gently on a floured surface for 10 to 12 strokes. | | 6 | Roll or pat to a ? thickness: cut with 2 ? biscuit cutter using straight motion. | | 7 | Do not rotate the cutter. | | 8 | This will cause biscuits to flatter than desired. | | 9 | Bake on un-greased baking sheet for 10 to 12 minutes at 450 °F |
