Applesauce treasure loaf

Ingredients:
1 cupShortening, soft
1 1/2 cupBrown sugar, firmly packed
4 Eggs
2 1/2 cupSifted all-purpose flour
1 tspBaking powder
1/2 tspSoda
1 1/2 tspSalt
2 tspCinnamon
3/4 tspCloves
3/4 tspNutmeg
2 cupSweetened canned applesauce
1 1/2 cupQuaker Oats, uncooked
-- (quick or old-fashioned)
1 cupRaisins
1 cupPitted dates
-- cut in small pieces
1 cupCandied red cherries
-- cut in small pieces
1 cupChopped nutmeats
Procedures:
1Beat shortening and sugar together until creamy.
2Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
3Sift together 2 cups of the flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices.
4Add alternately with applesauce to creamed mixture; blend well.
5Stir in oats.
6Combine remaining ?cup flour with raisins, dates, cherries and nutmeats; stir to coat fruits and nutmeats evenly with flour.
7Stir into batter.
8Pour into 2 greased and waxed paper-lined 8-? x 4-? x 2-? loaf pans.
9Bake in preheated very slow oven (275°F).
10About 2 hours.
11Set pan of hot water in bottom of oven while loaves are baking.
12Loosen edges; cool on wire rack about 10 minutes.
13Remove from pans; cool thoroughly.
14Wrap cooled bread and store one day before slicing.
